What is Gifts for Kids all about

Providing Christmas gifts for kids who wouldn't otherwise have a single present to open on Christmas day. And who wouldn't otherwise get to experience a little of the special magic of Christmas.

Why do we do it?

Imagine what Christmas would've been like if you hadn’t had presents in a stocking or under the Christmas tree to open.

Imagine how you would've felt if there wasn’t even a single present for you to unwrap on Christmas morning.

That’s why we do it.

It's to provide gifts for the kids, whose families are struggling and can’t afford (for whatever reason) to buy presents for their children.

It's an amazing feeling to know, on Christmas day, that we made a difference to a whole bunch of kids.

It's an amazing feeling to see the look on a parent's face, when they realise they’re going to have presents for their children to look forward to on Christmas day.

And especially to know that those children got to unwrap a present they wouldn’t have otherwise had.

Who is it for?

It's for the children:

  •  Who wouldn’t otherwise get to experience a little of the magic of Christmas
  •  Who wouldn’t otherwise get to wonder what was in their present
  •  Who wouldn’t otherwise get to anticipate waking up on Christmas morning knowing they had a present to unwrap

How do we choose the families?

Plunket chooses the families.

In the months leading up to Christmas, Plunket asks all of their nurses in the area, to identify the families that are most in need.

Plunket then assembles a list of all the children - name, age and gender - and hands it over to us to buy the gifts.

The good news, so far, is we’ve been able to buy gifts for all the kids they've identified each year.

But there are many more, not just in West Auckland, but all over Auckland and all over New Zealand, who could benefit if we had others who were interested in contributing.

Why Plunket?

Because when we came up with the idea just before Christmas 2012 we knew we needed help to find the right families.

We couldn’t just go and knock on doors to see if someone was in real need.

Plunket deals with all families with babies and young children. They seemed like a great fit for what we were looking for.

And that's proven to be the case.

The first year we bought and wrapped around 80 gifts and handed them over to Plunket to deliver.

Since then we have funded and bought the gifts, had a huge "wrapping" night to wrap all the presents and Plunket has delivered all of them.

In 2018, working closely with Plunket, and with the generous support of friends, colleagues, and businesses over 1150 kids got a Christmas present who would have otherwise not got anything.

When and how do we deliver them?

We have a Gifts for Kids "wrapping" night where it's all hands on deck to help wrap, label each present with the child's name, and put it in the bag for that family.

We deliver the gifts to the families in the week leading up to Christmas.

We take a day off work and go out with the Plunket team to help deliver to the families.

It’s one of the special days of the year for us.

What about Christmas 2023?

We’ll be doing it again.

I don’t know if you have ever felt you’d like to do something like this, but weren’t sure where to start

If so, we can help.

$30 buys a present for a child.

If you can fund one present you'll make a difference in a child's life

Or maybe you can fund 5 or 10 or more. Or maybe you have a business that's looking for a charity to support.

With your support we're aiming for over 800 presents for Christmas 2023.

There’s plenty more kids who will go without a present to unwrap this year that you could help – we’d love to have you join us.

If you’re interested, we’d love to discuss it with you. Just click this link to email me (or fill out the contact form)

If you get half as much out of it as we have, you’ll have a special Christmas like you’ve never had before

And so will a bunch of kids!

Cheers

Campbell and Els
